Mountain Cloud, 2015
Digital video, 10 seconds
In Colorado there is a mountain called Longs Peak, which hovers at 14,259 feet. The mountain has claimed the lives of 60 people since 1921. I almost became one of them in 2007 when I was struck by lighting while climbing its majestic face. in 2013, I revisited the mountain with some friends, and upon our decent from the summit, a young man from Missouri slipped and fell, tumbling downward. We saw his body 200 feet below us, he was still alive. Rescuers eventually reached him, and he died shortly there after. His name was Paul Nahon, and at 20 years old, he fulfilled death #57.
This ten second video reflects the brevity of our lives and the speed of passing time while paying homage to the 60 people who gave up their souls to the allure of this deadly mountain. May their memory be eternal.
